About Us
The Observing System Monitoring Center (OSMC), funded by NOAA's Global Ocean Observing & Monitoring (GOMO) Program, focuses on integrating networks of real-time global ocean observing and monitoring data into an easily accessible and useful tool. By harvesting global ocean observations from the World Meteorological Organization's (WMO) Global Telecommunications System (GTS), the OSMC can serve those data through the OSMC ERDDAP and multiple data viewers (homepage). These sites and services allow for access to real-time ocean observation data from a variety of platforms, identification of problems in real-time, and evaluation of the adequacy of ocean observations in support of weather forecasting and ocean and climate research.
The OSMC designed and implemented the Open-GTS project, which improves distribution and access of near real-time ocean data that benefits both data producers and consumers. The Open-GTS project focuses specifically on helping improve model forecasts and developing a better understanding of the value of in situ observations in forecasts.
